Kenneth Van Diest (History teacher, Vice Principal)

Kenneth L. Van Diest, 56, of Poulsbo died April 22, 1998, at his home. He was born Aug. 26, 1941, in Seattle. He graduated from Eastern Washington University. On Aug. 4, 1990, he married Patricia A. Checkvala in Port Gamble.

Mr. Van Diest worked at Highline High School in Burien for 31 years. From 1986 to when he retired in 1994, he served as vice principal at Highline High School.

He is survived by his wife; one son, Chris of Renton; one brother, Earl Jr. of Port Orchard; one sister, Marilyn Bates of Port Orchard; his mother, Violet M. Van Diest of Tacoma; and three grandchildren. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. April 26. Services will follow at 3 p.m. Both will be held at Poulsbo Mortuary's Stone Chapel at 22272 Foss Road in Poulsbo In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, 4414 Woodlawn Park Ave. N., Seattle, WA 98103-7499.
